Hey guys. I'm trying to connect a FT232R to a microcontroller as shown in http://www.sparkfun.com/datasheets/IC/FT232R_v104.pdf on page 26 to create a USB-UART interface. It shows a ferrite bead, and, in the datasheet, says that "the value of the Ferrite Bead depends on the total current required by the circuit – a suitable range of Ferrite Beads is available from Steward (www.steward.com) for example Steward Part # MI0805K400R-00."

The total current used by my circuit is around 90mA. I'm still not really sure how to pick out a suitable ferrite bead, though. Will this work: http://search.digikey.com/us/en/products/BKP1005HS221-T/587-2088-1-ND/1789035 ? I'm looking for something in an SMT-0402 surface mount package that will do the job.

Any info greatly appreciated. Thanks!

That bead should be ok. 90 ma is within the current rating, and the inductance is not excessive for this application. You can probably omit the bead without seeing any difference in performance. It is there to reduce emitted radio energy, and you won't be able to tell if its working within specifications without going through an expensive test anyway...

Oh okay great. Maybe I'll just try my circuit without it, then, and see what happens.
