I am going to start standard cell design, and would like to know some ides/experience connected with that project. Mainly I am interested in following points
1) what are the general guidelines of std cell design?
2) What cells should have an std library?
3) How to characterize the std cells?
4) How to design retention flops?

Any ideas/comments would be helpful.

 

Define what you think of as a cell. It is so vague as to be unintellagable.

 

It might be helpful to confirm exactly what you are working on, because the term 'standard cell' has several, very different, meanings in electronics.
