Really wanted to post this in the Electrical Mystery thread but didn't feel it proper. Just be thankful your breaker box doesn't look like this. This is the way the breaker box in my shop looked like when we bought this place.

On top of the breaker box the feed for the shop was about 150 feet of standard Romex indoor cable just laying mostly on top of the ground. It now has a new breaker box and conduit ran underground with #4 copper.
