Seems to be the LCD display (DVI-D) didn't like the 1080 screen res for standard DVD format (prefers 720 or 576). Funnily enough I am convinced it used to work with 1080 for both formats, but seeing it was so long ago, can't be certain now. Maybe they tweaked a few things in a later firmware update, hmmm... Anyhow, problem sorted - me
