I have photos from people online where they have some sort of soldering apparatus that has clips and poles and arms. It just makes soldering 'free' parts much easier. Any ideas where I can find one? Radio Shack?

They are also available from Harbor Freight. I've seen them from vendors at gem&mineral shows as well.

I have indeed found mine to be useful.
