Solar Charge Controller Question

Hi, and Happy New Year to All! ,
I'm wondering why the docs for every solar charge controller I've seen forbids
the input of any supply on it's solar panel input other than power derived from solar panels.

I've got a unit that claims the ability to hack 10 Amps input,
so what's the difference if I remove the panel, and connect a 4 amp battery charger to the same input to top up the battery ?
Cheers, Art.

Solar charge controllers are not useful for anything but for charging batteries from a solar panel, the charge controller will monitor the batteries voltage level and when it gets to full charge, the controller shorts the lead from the solar panel via a transistor or something similar.

So if you connect your charger to the charge controller to top off the battery, hopefully you charger is quicker than the charge controller once the battery reaches full charge.... or the charge controller will just short your chargers leads!!
