SMPS in parallel with linear reg

I want to completely bypass the micro USB plug and linear regulator on my Raspberry Pi and replace it with a SMPS and barrel jack. Can I simply put the SMPS in parallel with the linear reg or do I have to remove the linear reg? I'm just wondering if having no higher voltage but a capacitor to bleed into if the linear reg would bleed backwards or something.

Thanks.

The right way is to isolate them from each other with diodes but, that is going to mess with the voltage available by a significant amount. Do what kubeek said.
