It is really a big issue, there are countless rogue search spiders out there.
I saw on my domain site server log, for instance join.php scripts are accessed 10000s of times, without anyone ever joining.
As a measure, I replaced join.php with a short text message.
Traffic went down from 100s of megabytes to less than 1/10 of that!
It does not matter so much as I can use unlimited traffic, but it is still a waste.
