While RFID as a concept is fairly standardized, there are many different frequencies, encoding schemes, and data formats. One of our vendors makes contactless ID card readers, and they frequently update the firmware to work with newer cards. So while the odds are low that two randomly chosen companies would use tags and readers from the same company, it is statistically possible. But without the encryption key the odds of reading the cleartext data are very low.
