hi everyone,
I want to know how to replace mechanical pot (used to control volume) with an IC digital pot in a "HEADPHONE EXTENSION CORD":

I need to do this because I would like to control the volume through arduino connected to digital pot, and since I have never used digital pot, I would like to know how? any idea how it works and how to replace it?
thanks

First thing to think about or to measure is how much power is involved. I don't know and it probably is not much but then you will have to find out if digital pots can handle it.

There may be a simple digitally controlled amplifier that will be more appropriate like the LM4811 below, although it is kind of small and may be hard to work with depending on your equipment and abilities.
