The PIC pin 18 asserts a low in order to engage the reed relay.

There is no diode providing reverse-EMF protection for the PIC for when the relay coil's ground is removed. However, you might get away with that due to the high resistance of the reed relay's coil and the 100 Ohm resistor in series with it.

Hello,

There are reed relays available with a build-in diode.
Then there is no seperate back-EMF diode needed.
