Hi all, thanks for reading this.
I am working on a project using a 350W vacuum cleaner motor and would like to add something in line to reduce the power by 20% (so the motor runs at 280W).
the inclusion of a diode has been suggested to me, but I think that would reduce the power by about 50%, which is too much of a reduction for what im after.

might you have any suggestions to do this simply and cheaply?

thanks,
James.

You probably know the attainable Hg level will drop also!
What is the reason for the required drop?
You may do it by restricting the inlet, this will also reduce the power consumption. But also raise the rpm.
Max.
