PWM using 555 timer

I am designing an Robot and trying to get a way to use PWM to drive my H-bridge circuit. Can I build one with a 555 timer??? If so what are the precautions I need to take in order not to blow up my FETs???

if you want a pwm controller, use the tl494, its a universal pwm controller that can be used for almost everything
if the pwm does not need to be regulated, you can use a lm555

you can also add regulation to 555, either through the reset pin (making it a gated pwm generator), or through the cv pin (less range).
