i forgot to mention that i have a laptop battery that says,

    NOM 10.8 V 4.0AH

can i use this with a rechargable 1.2 volt battery and have that be my power source?

If your speakers have a power inlet, it's going to state what that voltage and current are. Batteries are DC. Get a rechargable gel cell fron American Science & Surplus if your speakers use 12 volts. You can charge the battery from a car's lighter socket.

recharging of the battery in the car should be connected in reverse, if i am right?
