Hello, I've built a few simple amps and have used the recommended value pots for them.

But say I had one that required a 1K pot, and I used a 5k or a 1 meg. What are the differences? Thanks.

 

The difference will depend on how the pot is used. If you can supply a specific schematic, we can discuss the effect of replacing a specific pot.

 

ok, here's the schematic. What I'm asking is, do I have to use the 1k dual gang pot in place if c3 and c4, or what are the consequences of using a 5k, etc..

Also, it did not list the value of the volume pot. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

When you change the potentiometer from 1K to 5 K the gainschange will be on a smaaler part of the potentiometerrange and the rest will hardly give any change.
The change will be heard if the value gets below 1K.
