I have been thinking about making a radio replica
from portal, however, I want it to operate JUST LIKE
    the radio from the game.

Here are the features it will have:

    FM/AM Radio
    L/R Speakers
4 AA power (6 Volts, might get reduced)
    SSTV transmitter, overrides current station.
    Song from portal radio
Speaker for mp3 players or any sound output with a 3mm jack
Can be powered by AC/DC voltage
LCD screen built into the front to show current signal
Power indicator. (Flashes when either battery is low or SSTV transmission is
currently being played. Flashes from red to green)
Blue LED back light (Possibly a solid clear plastic tube)
Black knob for power and volume

This is going to be a HUGE project.
Well, two actually. The first is the radio itself and the second is the
SSTV transmitter. I have sketches for it and they will be shown under this.
Know what I need to know is this:

An automatic switcher to change from radio broadcasts to the SSTV
A small radio circuit, AND I MEAN SMALL! (SMD not acceptable. Minimal parts
    will be okay)
How to program a LCD screen to show broadcasts and if an SSTV transmission
is going through. (I'm strongly against custom IC's or microcontrollers. But
anything with arduino in the name, I'm on board with! :3)

If there is anything else, I will ask it in the comments. Thanks everyone! ^^
(PS, My handwriting is total crap. Sorry! ^^' )
    (PSS, I don't own a scanner. XP)

A suggestion, start with a cheap radio and modify it. Unless you have oodles of experience a radio can be a daunting project.

If you must build from scratch, look around for the various chips out there to simplify your life.

Okay, My walgreens sells a classic, small AM/FM radio with knob controls so that'll do. But what about the small sstv transmitter?
