You will not be very successful with PICs if you do not read the data sheet. The data sheet is your best friend. You do not have to read the full data sheet from start to end. But you MUST read about the units you will be using. Like in this case the ADC. And it will not be enough to read it once. You must read again and again, and also allow some head head scratching between each reading session. Until you understand how it works. Then you can start programming.i didn't have time to read the all data sheet,that's why i put this.
