Hi,

I'm currently in the process of designing an IR to Bluetooth Converter, and having a little difficulty with the design of the infrared receiver. Particularly in terms of the photodiode. It seems to only be effective when within 10cm of the IR transmitter, and any further than that it won't detect the signal. Any suggestions to get around this problem?

Increase the current through the transmitting diode if it can withstand it or make a more sensitive receiver circuit. If you want to transmit along the room why don't you use a laser beam and a phototransistor or LDR as the detector. The beam of a laser is concentrated and it does not loose power with distance.
