PD = 15~, I = 1100mA to 12V DC, <1100mA [500?]

I think I just gave you all the information required...but I'll tell you the situation:

I have a "power pack" [transformer] that plugs into 240V AC, that puts out 15V AC at 1100mA.

I wish to convert this to around 12V at <1100mA for a small audio amp [and other stuff...]. I'm not sure what 1100mA would do to it, so I'll stick with that value or less.

I've had trouble finding anything on Google, and the "circuit" I did try turned a capacitor into a firecracker rocket [I never knew they were so loud!].

If anyone has a solution, that would be appreciated.

PS: Simplicity is best - hopefully without an IC, but if there's no other way, fine.

AA.
