By using a compensating resistor wouldnt I then have to sacrifice the benefit of the high impedance of the op-amp?

If you worry about the input bias current of a 42 years old 741 opamp and want a high input impedance then select a modern opamp that has Jfet or Mosfet inputs with NO input bias current.
