I want to change the switch on my powered theater seating sofa. The old switch sticks up about 3" between the love seat portion.

I've already cut the switch out and I'm unsure of how to wire a new switch. I have purchased 2 different on-off-on switches, one with 6 wire connections and one with 3. The wire from the sofa has 4 wires.

I'm assuming one is a ground, but I don't know where to ground it to.

Any assistance or thoughts would be appreciated.

 

Is it possible to locate where these wires are connected?

Or tell us the part number of the old switch and where each wire was conencted.

 

Well, do you know if the seat has an AC or DC motor?

If it is a DC motor, then you'd need to wire up a DPDT switch to reverse the motor polarity.

If it is an AC motor, there are LOTS of different possibilities.

You will have to look at the information plate on the motor to find out what kind it is.

 

It has a DC motor and there is already an AC to DC converter.

I can't tell much about the switch. Other than all the wires (except green) have continuity in the off position.

You'll need to figure out which of the four wires come from the power supply, and which go to the motor.

 

Hooking the wires up to a multimeter, would be the way correct?

Generally, it is acceptable that the green wire is ground, however, personally, I do not trust wire colours. It would be better to check where each wire is connected and then decide how you will use them.
