I'm trying to pull a NTSC signal out of DVR to go into a USB Composite adapter. If the adapter isn't connected to the DVR pin at the right moment the attached picture happens. The signal doesn't roll. Just doesn't sync correctly.

What do you mean "at the right moment"?

The sync issue may be a signal level problem. Could be either the DVR or the USB adapter. Don't see how to readily solve that.

Do you have an Oscilloscope?
If so,place a 75ohm termination across the input,& look at the video signal from your DVR.
The overall amplitude should be 1 volt ,with the syncs being just a bit less than 0.3v.

If you don't have a 'scope, but have an ordinary analog TV with AV inputs, try the video signal into that.
If it also has problems, that places the problem in your DVR.
If not,it is in your adaptor.
