Hi -

On a PIC16F84 chip, I tied the MCLR pin directly to Vdd (I forgot to use a pull-up resistor). Right now I'm getting no response from the chip, but I think it's a separate (oscillator) issue.

The data sheet says the pin can handle up to +14 volts. Should I be concerned that I may have fried the chip by hitting it with 4.5V without a resistor?

I have tied my /mclr to Vdd many times without any problems.
/MCLR only goes to 12 volts to program the chip.
