So I'm a newbie - happens to the best of us.

I have a project, and I know what I'd like to happen, and I want to know the best way to do it, in the most efficient manner.

So you've got an 12v Battery, some kind of controller circuit, a touch sensor, and a solenoid valve, all wired together. When the touch sensor is closed, through some kind of mosfet the 12v DC is sent to the solenoid valve, for x amount of milliseconds. When the touch sensor is open, the system resets. Simple, no? Haha, I know it's not.

I've got the Battery and Solenoid picked out. What I need is what kind of controller circuit I'll be needed.

Sorry if my terminology sucks. :)

Thanks in advance.

Without listing the parts you have picked out we can only guess. The old TV commercial "Parts is parts!" was referring to chicken, not electronics.
