Some motors with defined low shaft speeds are basically geared down synchronous motors.

If you have one of those, its speed cannot be adjusted by an ordinary TRIAC phase-angle controller.

Thanks Adjuster for the quick reply.

I am not trying to control the speed, I am trying to do simple On and Off control using the TRIAC.

I am afraid of burning the motor or the TRIAC.

Thank you,
Sun.

There is little danger of damaging the motor or triac in this case.
A bigger issue is keeping it latched on as the motor current may be close to the triac holding current--this may require continuous gate current rather than a short gate pulse. Also put a R-C snubber circuit (e.g 150Ω 0.1uf) across the triac.

Thanks jimkeith for the reply...

I am planning to do exactly as shown in the attached circuit.gif. Will it bomb or will it work

I am going to pull up the Microcontroller's I/O pin to high till I want the motor running.

Any thoughts are highly appreciated.

Thank you,
Sun.
