Small, Power types, A 1N4001 (or any other in that family up to a 1N4007) can handle up to 1A. As long as it can handle ½A you are cool.

I bought a bag of 1000 PN2222A NPN transistors from BG Micro for around $13. They can be quite cheap.

That's great, 1N4001 are available almost anywhere. And wow that is really cheap man. Its not even 2 cents each!!! I got them for about 5 cents each.

I'm halfway done (image below). It looks like a big mess and requires a lot of patience. Not looking forward to adding the diodes haha. I need 95 of them and 101% patience. I'm gonna use two layers of circuit board and screw them together at the corners.

Hi, i'm done soldering the circuits but i have a big problem. the ne555 timer ic works perfect with about 6V high output at a rate of 1Hz and almost 0V low output from Pin 3. i have connected it to pin 14 of the CD4017 decade counter ic, but the decoded outputs from each of the 10 pins of the cd4017 has a high voltage of only 1.8V!!! the timing and all is correct though, but 1.8V isnt enough to light anything! any ideas/suggestions?

the power supply to the CD4017 is from the same 6V source as well. the power source is not from batteries but from a current source connected to the power supply.
