I want to build a inverter which wold charge the batteries when there is power and would power up appliances when there is a power cut. would an inverter circuit do that? and can i hook up batteries whose wattage is less than 1000W and add the rest later? Please give me any suggestions as well as circuits if available.

Buy one. It will be cheaper and more reliable in the long run.

If new price is a issue buy a used or broken one. Odds are if you know someone with a unit that does notwork you might even get it for free!

One good source to look at is used UPS units. They are most often junked due to the battery going bad and are very easy to redesign to run with a much larger external battery.
