Yes. It will be sensitive to the length of the wire antenna.

It might work indeed, but use a JFET and not a MOSFET, since MOSFETs are static sensitive and will be damaged that way.

Similar projects say to leave the gate and resistor of the Jfet in the air and not connected on a circuit board.
