Hi I am trying to make a controller, that will activate a 12v solenoid and cause it to switch on driving an air operated cylinder forward and switching on a flag that then causes another solenoid to switch on and drive another cylinder and so on and so on.

Would I be better using a microcontroller and if so what type?.

Any ideas would be greatfully recieved.

a cheap plc from automation direct would do nicely

 

An arduino is a nice easy to get main stream development board which would be useful for this and many other projects.
