I hope someone can help me. I'm trying to identify a component from a Sharp air conditioner; I've never seen the symbol before. The wiring diagram labels the component as NR and shows it as a capacitor-type symbol with a diagonal line from the upper left plate to the lower right plate. The only numbers on the component are v9271u. This piece is in parallel with a capacitor and a transformer. Any ideas? Thanks for any help.

 

Hi,

The device is a varistor. They have a high resistance until some voltage level is exceeded and then they become very conductive. They try to keep voltage spikes out of transformers and motors.
