Mystery component on RV Converter PCB

I'm resurrecting a 12VDC converter from an RV that suffered a capacitor failure, I'm guessing due to being run on low voltage (extension cords too long, etc.)

One or more components may have failed that fed that cap, and I'm trying to identify them through the smoke stains. Full disclaimer, I don't have the best understanding of how this works.

I believe the resistor on the right is a 20 ohm +/-5%. but I don't know what the shiny copper cylinder is in the center? Is that a 2-band resistor, or another kind of diode that doesn't match the rest on the board, or...?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The middle component is a Zener diode as indicated by the silk screen ZD1. It should test similar to a standard diode. Remove it and look for any markings that may indicate the voltage rating for it.

Thank you abrsvc, I sure do appreciate it!

I'll get a look under it today, and I'll remove that transistor too. Based on the heat marks maybe that's what let go, I can't tell for sure yet.
