Multi-Switch in Electronics

Hi everyone,
I am basically a mechanical engineer and have no profound knowledge in electronics. In electronics, a transistor resembles the simple electrical switch.

However, my question is "Is Multi-Switching (3-way or 4-way switch) possible in electronics?" If so, could someone please explain me the multi-switching operation (for a 3-way switch) in electronics with a simple circuit diagram?

I have been searching an answer for this question in some forums but in vain. Hope to find a solution here

Regards

Well, the focus is mainly to turn any home appliance (hence, devices working on A/C supply) ON/OFF

I just want to replicate the action as mentioned in the image attached via electronics

For this u need just more than transistors.

It will be much much complicated then u think.

U will nee isolation if any thing should go wrong to trouble shoot.
U will need triacs or Relays to switch which is more than just transistors.
U will need some sort of micro controller to make the switching simple and effective.

And this all will add low voltage wiring together with mains. Which will also complicate the circuit to make it immune to mains generated EMI.
