When finding, \(V_{CMmax}\), what is the reason for using \(V_{D}\) as opposed to \(v_{DS}\)?
For the edge of saturation and triode (i.e. where VCMmax occurs),
\(v_{GS} - V_{t} = v_{DS}, \quad \quad v_{GS} = V_{CMmax}\)
\(\Rightarrow V_{CMmax} = Vt + v_{DS}\)
