I have a wireless burglar alarm that I want to use to operate a door release latch (8-12V). The alarm unit has a pir and a sounder and operates off a 6V battery pack, armed and dis-armed by a key fob with a 30sec delay. Is this an easy mod or is it more trouble than it.s worth? Any suggestions welcome.

you could wire a relay across the sounder if its an on board type and not a speaker.

 

it is an onboard sounder, but how would I overcome the delay and how would I get the voltage up to the release, as you might guess I'm a novice

 

altering the delay would need more studying of the circuit inside, the relay can be wired across the sounder, and use the relay contacts to power the bolt.
