Hello. I am trying to replace a broken microphone in a VHF radio and have installed and soldered in one of these http://www.maplin.co.uk/omni-directional-sub-miniature-microphone-4565 that looks identical to the broken one.

When trying it the microphone does nothing - could it be an issue to do with putting the component around the wrong way? Might this prevent the microphone working?

Thanks for the image. I am going to try the mic the other way round and see if it works then.

 

The pin connected to its metal case is connected to the ground of the circuit. Measure it with a multimeter.

Are you being ripped off? 3.99 British Pounds is about $8.00 Canadian. I can buy more than six of them for $8.00.

OH! Maplin is the RadioShack of Britain. In RadioShack in the USA (they are gone from Canada) it costs $3.19.
