Memory stick works in windows 10 but not in linux

I bought two 256GB memory sticks, samr type, just different colours. One of them is fine in windows 10 or linux (different machines) but the other one works only in windows 10 but isn't recognised at all in linux. I have 'quick formatted' and 'full formatted' it but this makes no difference.

Any ideas why that might be or, even better, how to fix it?

Very curious!
The working one is formatted FAT32.
The dodgy one was formatted 'ex-FAT' which is the default. FAT32 is not an option for this one. The only other choice is NTFS but formatting as NTFS and it now works in windows and linux.

Thanks.

Still confusing as they both worked originally then the one stopped working. That was before I formatted it.
