which is the motor or what mechanism is used for rotating a seconds' hand inside a clock?

 

I believe that the majority of the newer quartz clocks use a stepper motor driven by a crystal oscillator circuit.

In some cases there is no motor (at least in old quartz watches). There is a small elecromagnet instead that advances the mechanism in pulses. I know this because I opened several rist watches and one wall watch.
