I got a mechanical pong when pong was brand new. Visualize a box with a flashlight (tight beam) on a gimble with a counter weight in back. A motor swung the light arm back and forth, but it moved up or down freely. The paddle knobs moved a couple of mechanical paddles up and down, if the arm made it past a paddle it hit a bar that went to a mechanical counter, and also a bell. When one counter or the other made 7 the power to the motor was cut.

It was fun, and for the day, cheaper than the electronics (though not for long). Think very early 70's.
