Matlab to CUDA code conversion

I want to implement LZW compression algm in CUDA.first simulate the algorithm in mathlab then convert to Cuda is a better approach?then please specify the steps of conversion.is there any chance for error ?please reply soon..I am stared to code directly on cuda emulator.
