Magnetoresistive sensors such as ABS wheel speed sensors are powered. Some are two-wire having a power and signal terminal. Why must you put a resistor between the output and ground to be able to measure the output voltage as opposed to the purely inductive sensors two-wire ( sensor+ and return) where you can observe the output waveform without putting a resistor anywhere ??
