Hi Guys. I'm a super novice and I'm currently working through through the circuit's theory on the site. I have a quick question about relays. I need to spec out a relay that can carry up to 10A, and relay house power. But this relay needs to be switched by a DC source that's safe to the touch, i.e. like a battery. Is such a thing possible? Thanks in advance for your feedback. - AJ

Sure, just look for a relay with a coil rated for some low DC voltage, but with contacts rated for mains AC voltage at whatever current will be the max. Of course, there is still AC close by for the careless touch, so there is some risk involved. Good insulation will take care of that.

Here's an example. http://search.digikey.com/us/en/products/PCLH-202D1SP,000/PB897-ND/1095222
