    Hey guys,

    I'm trying to put together an outdoor lighting system...a rather big one. It's a future project and I haven't quite got much together yet. But essentially the idea is.

    Solar cell -> Li-ion battery charger circuit -> 3.8V Li-ion battery

    Li-ion battery -> High power LED arrays

    And then possibly with a mcu to identify ambient light and control output accordingly. Something like that.

    I need a solar cell around 5V and as high current as possible. Anyone have any good sources for cheap but good quality cells. Glass type/hard type is preferred. Not much of a fan of the roll-up ones.

    If you have a Northern Tool & Hydraulic store nearby, they sell some "inexpensive"-ish solar stuff, everything from batteries to cells to charge controller, inverters, grid tie stuff. If not, the internet has everything.

    Commercial -for sale- panels will not have voltage levels that low.

    You will have to 'roll your own' from individual cells to get that.

    .5 volts is the common output of a single cell. The commercial panels have them in series for producing much higher voltages. The good news is individual cells are easy to get. The bad news is they are FRAGILE and hard to work with/solder up.
