Why don't you make a truth table and simplify with a Karnaugh map?

Maybe because that doesn't answer the question, never mind that there is no simplification, or that a Karnaugh map for 8 variables is intractable in 2 dimensions.

The telltale checkerboard pattern would be visible on a 16 state K-map which is very doable. Easy to see that no reduction is possible, too.

Yep they work well for 3 and 4 variable problems. After that it becomes dicey.
