LM78M05 - What is input range?

It can take 35V max, but it gets warm with a 12VDC input.

9V or so generates least heat and above dropout voltage.

If your load is going to be over 500mA, or your input voltage higher than 20V continually, you may want to look at a switching regulator.

Ok thanks. My DC Power supply is 12V so I didn't want to make an additional regulator for this IC since it already has an LM78M05 that feeds it 5V and I just wanted to make sure if I needed to drop the 12V to 9V and then feed it to the LM78M05 or just feed it directly 12V.
