I am looking to make a circuit that is either a variable rate from 1-10 flashes per second or 8 flashes a second exactly. I need it to be like the police lighst they now have. In a sequence like (l=left r=right) LLLLLLLL, RRRRRRRR and so on continously. I would like for the circuit to be able to hold about 10-15 LEDs on each leg (left and right). I am fairly knowledgeable with small electronics so Can gents help me? Thank you

this what i want but to beef it up for more leds. can i just put in a transistor on pins R1 and R2 and change the values of those same resistors?

That circuit simply blinks the leds alternatively LRLRLR like that.. not LLLLLLLLRRRRRRRR

555 can source or sink upto 200mA peak... If you run the led's at 10mA, you can hook up 20 led's b/n pin 3 and (+) and b/n pin 3 and (-) but make sure you use resistors for each LED.. Running LEDs in series is not good.. If you use a pair of transistors, you can run more...
