I am looking to program a micro controller to incorporate a laser range finder in which returns distances with less than 1 meter +- at 0-60 yards. My current idea is to take a real range finder used for hunting or golf and remove all unnecessary parts besides the laser and the receiver. I then hope to interface to micro controller with these parts and hopefully measure distances with high precision. I don't know how realistic this is or if it is possible. I know that the speed of light Time of Flight idea means that the processor must have a fast cycle rate to accurately measure the distance, but i don't know if the microprocessor is capable of doing this with simple loops. Please help me! Any suggestions are greatly appreciated
