If you read the datasheet, it is entitled "ADJUSTABLE VOLTAGE AND CURRENT REGULATOR"

The LM317 is limited to 1.5A. The L200 can output up to 2A.
The LM317 has better line and load regulating characteristics, and a lower dropout voltage (1.7 vs the L200's 2V).
At 0.5A output, the L200 regulates to 1.4% typical; no maximum provided.
