Hi All,

Not quite understanding how to explain whats being asked.

The diagram shows output characteristics with a load line for a JFET, and i'm needing to explain how the circuit develops voltage gain.

Am I on the right track with the following because a JFET is a FET with a semiconductor junction between the gate and the channel;

As the drain current increases the voltage drop increases, and the effective channel width at the drain end of the channel falls, eventually almost closed off completely, once this has happened the current flow from the source to drain cannot increase further unless you increase the gate source voltage

Nope.
The output characteristics is the behaviour of the device in the circuit.
The question is asking at point (a) what is the current and VDS for the given VGS.
Compare this with point (b) and (c) and calculate the voltage gain.
