I love this TV. Really reliable and a great picture.

My wife was watching it last week and heard a hssst! And now there is a large rainbow-colored circle that takes up most of the screen, except the outer edges. You can see everything normally. It's just that it's the wrong color.

The outer edges of the screen are the only areas that are normal color. The center of the circle is green and the next outer layer of the circle is purple.

Is this caused by a supporting component that can be replaced? Or do you think the picture tube itself is gone? I solder and do some work with circuit boards. Thks!

 

Look into the degaussing circuit. The picture tube is not bad. It has just been magnetized.

The hissing sounds like the series PTC thermistor in your degaussing circuit has gone to thermistor heaven.
