I'm sitting here trying to figure out why I'm not seeing a reading on it.. I have the (-) lead from my multimeter connected to the source and the (+) to the gate and then I check the drain and I get no reading at all.

Odd it worked with my other meter in diode test :-/ maybe not enough volts to turn on?

 

Pretty much, a MOSFET requires around 10V to work correctly.
